The piece in context

History

Starter Deck: Kaiba introduced Blue-Eyes to most European players in 2002. The European release carried its own print characteristics and was distributed in far smaller numbers than the North American equivalent.

Why collectors value it

For UK and European collectors this is often the Blue-Eyes they actually owned. Regional printings have become a serious collecting category of their own, and SDK-001 in Gem Mint is the most desirable of them.

Population

Starter deck cards were opened, played and rarely protected. Gem Mint European examples are meaningfully scarcer than the raw print run would suggest.

Market

Values have risen sharply as collectors distinguish between regional printings rather than treating all SDK-001 copies as equivalent.
